Private debt investment in OECD countries has seen a slight decline over the last two years. So far this year, there have been 348 reported deals with an aggregate value of $73.8bn. This is less than half of the $190.8bn invested in 886 deals in 2022, or the 1,429 deals and $228.7bn investment in 2021.
However, while private debt dealmaking in OECD countries has reduced, this comes at the same time as a larger slowdown in M&A and private equity transactions. These are often financed with private debt, indicating this source of capital is taking a larger slice of a smaller pie.
