Record Number of Private Debt Funds in Market
Private debt funds in market have reached a new record high, and there are now more find seeking for capital than ever before. The start of 2021 saw a total of 547 private debt funds on the road targeting a record $290bn in combined capital commitments. Compared to January 2020, this marks an increase in both the number of funds (+20%) and capital targeted (+34%). Direct lending, special situations and mezzanine are the strategies that occupy the largest proportion – 270 are direct lending funds, 79 are special situations and 77 mezzanine. And, as in previous years, North America and Europe are the most sough markets for fund managers.
