NA private debt deal activity struggles to catch up with 2021 highs
Private debt deal activity in North America has slowed in the second half of 2022 so far, with the number of deals dropping to just over 100 in Q3 this year. Since the recent high of $78.8bn in Q2 2021, aggregate deal value has fluctuated, averaging $42.7bn per quarter. However, in Q3 2022 aggregate deal value hit $12.1bn. Only at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in Q2 2020 was aggregate deal value lower, at $2.3bn that quarter. Despite this relative drop-in activity, North America continues to dominate the asset class, accounting for 87.7% of aggregate deal value and 71% of deals globally.
