Private exit volumes level out

Higher interest rates have hampered the private equity exit environment over the past two years. Aggregate exit value from buyouts in 2024 dropped below $400bn for the first time since 2010, with 2,181 exits yielding $365.4bn. However, exits through secondary buyouts are at their highest aggregate value since 2021, valued at $131.0bn. More than half (60%) of private equity and venture capital fund managers surveyed by Preqin expect that exit activity will increase this year, as declining interest rates narrow the gap between buyers and sellers.
