Private debt AUM growth will spur product innovation
Preqin expects private debt to be the fastest growing alternative asset class over the next five years, with forecast compound annual growth rate of 17.4% from 2021 to 2026 outpacing infrastructure (16.7%), private equity (15.8%), and real estate (7.1%). This growth would be an acceleration from 15.27% over 2015-2020 and 10.4% for 2010-2015 and would make private debt the second largest alternative asset class, with AUM exceeding real estate in 2023. The headline growth of the asset class will drive product innovation as fund managers seek to differentiate themselves with both investors and companies, opening up new financing options for companies.
