Private debt deal activity in North America sees Q1 dip
Quarterly private debt deal activity in North America dropped in the first quarter of 2023. Preqin recorded 61 deals over the quarter, with a publicly reported total deal value of $0.1bn, the lowest quarterly levels in deal value in a decade. However, although deal numbers fell quarter-on-quarter over 2022, but the year still ended with aggregate deal value of $150.1bn over 606 deals. In the coming year, as the US Federal Reserve is expected to continue with monetary tightening and traditional sources of capital such as banks and bond markets become more difficult to access, private debt may be more in demand.
