Rapid growth in fundraising of Asian private debt funds
There has been a rapid uptake in fundraising by private debt funds in Asia over the past year. The aggregate capital raised by private debt funds in Asia was $6.3bn in Q2 of 2022, growing over 6x from the $1bn raised in the same quarter last year. While the region still lags North America, where the aggregate capital raised in Q2 2022 was $38.3bn, it has managed to catch up with Europe which stood at $8.2bn. Compared to the $20.0bn raised in Q2 2021, Europe was the only one of the three regions to see a decline in fundraising compared to a year earlier. The fundraising growth in Asia over the past year indicates strong investor appetite for private debt, although the product is not yet as established in the region.
